Supported by ITC and Enabel through the BEVAC Program, JAMBO ASALI is championing Tanzania’s natural honey on the global stage.

JAMBO ASALI, the flagship honey brand of Tanzania International Bee Co. Ltd, is on the path to achieving HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and Organic Certification, marking a significant step in its strategy to access and sustain competitive positions in international markets. This transformation is being supported by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and Enabel under the BEVAC (Beekeeping Value Chain Support) Program, a key initiative designed to strengthen Tanzania’s honey export capabilities.
Championing Tanzanian Natural Honey from the Miombo Forest
JAMBO ASALI is deeply rooted in the rich biodiversity of Tanzania’s Miombo Forest ecosystem, known for producing some of the most unique and high-quality honey in Africa. Through sustainable and ethical beekeeping practices, JAMBO ASALI ensures the honey it produces is 100% natural, raw, and traceable—free from chemicals and contaminants.
“Our mission is to take the purity of Tanzania’s honey to the world, while also uplifting rural beekeepers and preserving our natural forests,” said the company’s Managing Director.
The company works with over 1,000 smallholder beekeepers across regions such as Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi ensuring fair prices, training on sustainable practices, and strengthening the beekeeping value chain from hive to shelf.
Implementation of HACCP and Organic Certification Guidelines
As part of its international market access roadmap, JAMBO ASALI is rigorously implementing HACCP principles to ensure food safety from production to processing. This includes:
- Establishing a documented Food Safety Management System.
- Conducting detailed hazard analysis across all processing stages.
- Introducing strict critical control points (CCPs) to eliminate potential contamination.
- Training staff in good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and hygiene protocols.
- Upgrading processing facilities, including the Kibondo Honey Processing Center, to meet international sanitation and quality standards.
Simultaneously, the company is working towards Organic Certification, following international guidelines set by EU and USDA standards. This includes:
- Full traceability of honey from certified Miombo-based apiaries.
- Regular field inspections and internal audits.
- Elimination of synthetic pesticides and antibiotics.
- Ecosystem-friendly practices that ensure pollinator health and forest conservation.
“Our organic certification process is not just a label—it’s a commitment to ethical production and environmental integrity,” said the company’s Quality Assurance Officer.
Support from ITC and Enabel through the BEVAC Program
The BEVAC program, implemented by ITC and Enabel, has been instrumental in providing technical support, capacity building, and certification readiness assessments to JAMBO ASALI. This includes:
- Expert consultancy on certification standards.
- Training workshops for outgrowers and staff.
- Support in developing documentation and audit systems.
- Co-financing part of the certification process.
Thanks to BEVAC PROGRAM, JAMBO ASALI is bridging the gap between local production and international demand, ensuring Tanzanian honey meets the strict standards required in European, Middle Eastern, and North American markets.
Looking Ahead
With HACCP and Organic Certifications in progress, JAMBO ASALI is positioning itself as a leading export-ready honey brand from TANZANIA-AFRICA. This milestone not only opens doors to premium markets but also demonstrates the company’s deep commitment to food safety, sustainability, and social impact.
“We are not just exporting honey ,we are exporting the story of Tanzanian beekeepers, the value of our forests, and the purity of our land,” the company affirms.
